From Film to Digital Translating what I am doing Photographic Astronomy shots

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Photographic Astronomy

I ran into an issue lately in transferring my Astronomy photography using  film to digital. I kept getting just a white blue Image (looked like a sun image without filtering) when attached to the telescope, then I tried it with a new long lens, just to try to take a picture  of the moon, still goes the same thing so since I am a lifetime Canon photographer, I called Canon support , to  see if they had suggestions Meade who make my telescope they had not one clue of how to take the picture or what the issue was yet they sell the adapter fo the telescope, here is what I got from canon:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support.  We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you.  I am sorry that you are having difficulty taking images of the moon with your EOS 5D.

It is difficult to provide the proper shutter speed, f stop, and ISO when shooting images of the moon.  It is also difficulty when using a non-Canon lens.  Shooting in Manual mode would be recommended because you will be able to fine tune your settings.  You may want to start at an ISO of 400 for starters and if your camera is on a tripod, then you can use a shutter speed of 1/250.  Adjust the Aperture accordingly for exposure and see if the image is properly exposed.  You can also try using the TV mode where the Aperture is automatically set and you would simply adjust the shutter speed.  You may also want to check on the internet for other photographers using the same telescope and setup you are using and find out out what settings they are using.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your EOS 5D.  Thank you for choosing Canon.
